SJI taps La Salle players
to reinforce Palaro team

After capturing the NOPSSCEA high school boys' basketball title, St. John's Institute is getting ready to see action in the Provincial Meet or the Palarong Panlalawigan starting Dec. 16, this time with possible reinforcements from University of St. La Salle and Bacolod Tay Tung High School .

SJI head coach Dexter Dy said they are eyeing Junior Stingers Jerancy Yap, Neil Besa and Blue Dragon JM Yap to join the NOPSSCEA lineup to fill in the slots vacated by Kib Montalbo, Alec Rojas and JM Juson.

Dy also said he is giving Ritchie Militante a free hand in selecting the provincial team lineup since he appointed him to coach the team.

“Richie is ready to take on the job as I already groomed him to become head coach next year. Besides, I would be very busy with my personal business in the coming weeks,” coach Dy said.

He added that Montalbo opted not to play in the Provincial Meet as he is still recovering from the knee injury he suffered during practice while preparing for the NOPSSCEA semifinals.

Rojas and Juson said they will not able to don the NOPSSCEA colors in the meet since they have to focus on their studies as the schedule coincides with their examination week.

As soon as USLS and BTTHS give the go signal for their players to join the team, the NOPSSCEA high school boys' basketball squad will start training under Militante, Dy said.

Initially, two of the slots were offered to Emmanuel Bernales and Patrick Dave Yulo of University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos' but both players begged off also due to the schedule of their exams.*NAB
