Batang Pinoy games called off
but opening rites pushed through

Organizers of the Batang Pinoy 2012 National Finals called off the matches in eight sporting events that were due to start today due to the bad weather caused by Typhoon Pablo.

The opening ceremonies, however, pushed through as scheduled yesterday, although the venue was transferred from the Iloilo Sports Complex to the nearby basketball court.

Project Director Jay Alano met yesterday with the tournament directors of the participating contingents and they agreed to have a new schedule for athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo.

Pacquiao aims for stronger finish
in Dec. 9 fight against Marquez

Manny Pacquiao says Juan Manuel Marquez won't be able to out run him because he plans to fight at a faster pace when the two veteran boxers clash for the fourth time on December 9 (Phil. time) in Las Vegas.

"He is a good counter-puncher," Pacquiao said of Marquez. "He is very patient and sits back and waits for action.

"If I waited for him to throw the punches first, the fight would be boring. That's why I have always been the one to make the fight between us."

Skating `queen’ returns

South Korean figure skating star Kim Yu-Na will make her competitive return to the ice in Germany this weekend, ending a break of more than 18 months from the sport, her management agency said.

The reigning Olympic champion, 22, will take part in the NRW Trophy in Dortmund, chasing the points she needs to qualify for next year's world championships in Canada.

Known as "Queen Yu-Na" in her native country, Kim won silver at the 2010 worlds, after which she took a lengthy break. She finished second at the event in 2011 before dropping out of competition again.
