A storm surge that lasted a few hours at the height of super typhoon “Pablo” Tuesday in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, damaged infrastructure at the city port.

The Philippine Coast Guard station in Dumaguete reported that the storm surge triggered unusually huge waves and lasted for three hours, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The relatively new modern passenger terminal incurred the most damage after big waves of as high as five feet battered the city port.

Life returned to normal yesterday in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental after super typhoon “Pablo” slammed many areas in the province late Tuesday.

Gov. Roel Degamo lauded local government units, government agencies and the public for undertaking preemptive measures that left relatively minimal damage on lives and properties.

PDRRMC reported two casualties, Regie Real, 11, who was hit by a coconut tree, and Ellona Romano, 78, who drowned when her house was swept into the river, both from Azagra, Tanjay City.
