Police nab suspect
in swindling

Station 6 policemen arrested a woman in an entrapment operation at a bank along Libertad Street, Bacolod City, at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday for allegedly swindling a bride-to-be and taking money from her.

Chief Insp. Noel Polines, Station 6 commander, identified the one arrested as Ma. Lourdes Theresa Fajardo, 44, of Sta. Ana Street, Brgy. 31, Bacolod.

Polines said Fajardo was arrested on complaints of Jo Ann Rivera of Brgy. Banago, Bacolod, who claimed that the suspect duped and took about P6,100 in cash from her, in payment for the reception venue of her wedding in January next year.

Rivera told the police she went to Bricks Garden restaurant in Brgy. Doña Juliana Heights August 13 to inquire about a wedding reception, and met Fajardo, who introduced herself as the restaurant’s administrative officer.

Fajardo told Rivera she will arrange the reception as she is in charge of the bookings.

Rivera gave Fajardo P1,500 in cash as initial payment, another P300 on November 7, P2,300 November 14, and P2,000 on November 16, police records showed.

On Sunday, Rivera and her fiancé, whose name was not disclosed, went to the restaurant to check on their reservation but were told by an employee that Fajardo is not connected with the establishment, Polines said.

The couple then reported the incident to the police, who planned the entrapment of Fajardo, Polines also said.

He said swindling charges were filed against Fajardo before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday.*Niña Carmina Nidal
