capture Fil-Sino basketball crown

Organic Solutions held off Jast Enterprises, 90-88, to win the Class A title, while AACI Trading turned back JSY Countertrade, 75-64, to grab the crown in Class B of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 3rd Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Seeded No. 2 going into the finals, Organic Solutions almost squandered a four-point lead with less than a minute left as Jast’s Ritche Militante sunk a trey to cut the lead to a point.

With the game on the line, Arnol Laureño missed his two free throws to put Organic on the edge and open the door for Jast to grab the lead.

But Johnnyson Yu managed to steal the ball from Militante and teammate Marc Lo was fouled with eight seconds left to frustrate Jast. Lo split his free throws to give Organic a two-point lead.

With only a few second left, Jast went for a quick two-pointer but Organic’s defense foiled the two attempts to get away with the victory.

From a slim 20-19 lead, the trio of Peter Galon, Jose Miguel Montinola and Laureño delivered 11 , 8 and 7 points respectively, to lead Organic to a 49-40 cushion at the break.

Militante and Joel Masadia combined for 13 points as Jast cut the déficit to 64-61 going to the fourth quarter.

It as a nip and tuck battle in the final minutes as Jast leaned on the tandem of Militante and Yan Yan Dy to eke out an 11-point production. Organic, however, won the title on a strong finish with Laureño getting help from Galon and Yap.

Laureño had a game-high 24 points backstopped by Galon with 19, Bobby Yap with 12, Montinola 10 points, Lo 7, Bol Manaloto and Tiu with 6 points each.

Jast Enterprises was spearheaded by Militante with 23 points, Dy added 15, Masadia , Brian Tan and Eufre picked up 8 points each, Julius Teruel and Danny Boy Uy hit 6 points apiece.

In the Class B encounter, Luigi Coo scored 9 points, Richard Tan and Jolly Castillo combined for 11 points to take a 23-15 opening quarter AACI Trading advantage.

The Trading guys extended the leadt to 42-24 at halftime as Edward Uy and Mark Velez contributed 6 points each.

Countertrade drew closer in the next quarter as Alex Chua fired 8 points and Wilson Dy shot 6 points.

The outside artillery of JSY Countertrade, however, was grounded in the fourth quarter, leaving their offense to Wilson Dy, who delivered 9 inside points while Trading responded with Coo connecting on two triples, teammate Velez and Caesar Noble combining for 10 points to control the rally and protect their doublé digit lead.

Coo finished with 15 points, Velez 11, Uy 10, Noble and Castillo with 7 points each, Adrian Tan and Errol Su chipped in 6 points apiece.

Dy paced Countertrade with 17 points, Chua 10, Kieron Tan 9, Simon Tan 8 points, and Jan Jan Young 7 points.*with a report from Stephen Tan
