29 former jail guards
asking for extra bonus

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Twenty-nine former guards of the defunct Negros Occidental Provincial Jail are asking Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. for extra bonuses.

In a letter to the governor, the guards said that, until now, they have not received the extra bonus for 2011 that he promised them.

They said they checked the budget and there is still P1.7 million intended for such bonus.

But Marañon yesterday said all the payments due the guards were made when their employment with the provincial government ended, and the provincial government can no longer give them bonuses.*CPG
