The Department of Science and Technology in Negros Occidental will turn over today P9,980,388 to six entrepreneurs at the DOST office at Cottage Road, Bacolod City under the Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program.

Glady Reyes, science research specialist, said yesterday that SETUP is a support assistance fund of DOST that provides technical assistance to small entrepreneurs to upgrade their equipment and tools for their production.

The beneficiaries are Fresh Start Organic Personal Care Products Boutique (Bacolod), GH Foods Inc. (Murcia), Herbanext Inc.(Bago), Kahayag Natures Farms (Bacoldo), Marchris Industrial and Engineering Supply (Bacolod), and PB&C Logistics Marine Products (Bacolod), Reyes also said.

Equipment and machines are most important capitals for small entrepreneurs and DOST through SETUP, is providing them financial assistance that will enable them to upgrade and improve their materials, she said.

DOST is assisting those in the metal and engineering industries, agriculture, handicrafts and furniture, marine and aquatic, information, communication, technology, and health products, she said.

She also said this will help improve their production through advanced machineries, minimize their expenses, manage wastes, and produce competitive and quality products.

The beneficiaries will pay the grants in three years without interest, and SETUP will help them acquire better equipment and machines to improve their respective businesses, she said. *LTG
