IN 5TH DISTRICT
Alvarez says majority
of brgy heads for him

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. yesterday claimed he has gotten the support of 78 of the 116 barangay captains in the 5th district of Negros Occidental.

Negros Occidental has 601 barangays, excluding Bacolod City.

Alvarez, who is running for governor in the 2013 elections, cited the reports of Himamaylan City Mayor Agustin Ernesto Bascon, Isabela mayoralty bet Enrique Montilla, among other Nationalist People’s Coalition leaders in the 5th district, which, he said, indicated that his support from barangay officials is increasing.

Montilla also said that majority of the 30 barangay captains in Isabela alone, have already expressed their support to the tandem of Alvarez and his running mate, former San Carlos Mayor Eugenio Jose Lacson, for the vice-gubernatorial position.

Negros Occidental Board Member Emilio Yulo III is the guest candidate of the NPC in the 5t district congressional race. He is running against his uncle, incumbent Rep. Alejandro Mirasol, who is a member of the Liberal Party.

However, LP provincial chairman, Rep. Alfredo Benitez, had earlier expressed his support to the re-election bid of Mirasol, although he supported the gubernatorial bid of Alvarez.

Bascon also said that 17 of the 19 barangay captains in Himamaylan City also pledged their support to the Alvarez-Lacson tandem.

About 300 barangay leaders of Bago, who recently availed of insurance cards from the city government, also committed their support to Alvarez and Lacson, Mayor Ramon Torres said.*GPB
