Dumaguete wins DILG award

The Dumaguete City government won the Gawad Pamana ng Lahi Awards city category of the Department of Interior and Local Government 7.

This was after a series of validations by the regional GPL Team composed of representatives from national agencies.

The GPL Award is a program of the Aquino government through the DILG, that recognizes the transparency and accountability efforts of local government units nationwide.

It involves assessment of the LGU contenders based on the online Local Governance Performance Management System, acknowledged innovations, awards received, compliance to Anti-Red Tape Act and full disclosure policy, among others.

Felix Ablir Jr., chief of the DILG-Dumaguete City, informed Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria of the certification from Regional Director Ananias Villacorta of the DILG 7. Others winners are Bohol for the province category and Jagna, Bohol in the town level.

The regional awardees will receive plaques of recognition and checks for P3 million, P2 million and P1 million for the provincial, city and town category winners, respectively.

The awards will be given on December 14 at the Cebu Grand Hotel in Cebu City.*JFP
