Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said he, not Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez, has the support of the majority of barangay captains in the fifth district of Negros Occidental.
Marañon and Alvarez are running for governor in 2013.
On Sunday Alvarez said he has the support of 78 of the 117 barangay captains in the 5th district of Negros Occidental.
Marañon, on the other hand, said he has the support of 67 of the 117 barangay captains of the fifth district, or 57 percent, and more are expected to join his team.
In Isabela, he said, 17 of the 30 barangay captains are for him, in Moises Padilla – 8 of 15, La Castellana - 9 of 13, Himamaylan 3 of 19, Binalbagan all 16 and in Hinigaran 14 out of 24.
On Sunday, Alvarez, who is running for governor in the 2013 elections, cited the reports of Himamaylan City Mayor Agustin Ernesto Bascon, Isabela mayoralty bet Enrique Montilla, among other Nationalist People’s Coalition leaders in the 5th district, that, he said, indicated that his support from barangay officials is increasing.*CPG back
