Suspect in slay try, illegal gun
possession released from jail

The man from Cauayan town, Negros Occidental, who was arrested for frustrated homicide and illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions, was released from jail yesterday at about 6:30 p.m. after the 12-hour reglamentary period expired, SPO1 Jerry Espinoro, said yesterday.

Espinoro identified the suspect as Jesus Emit Jr., who is temporarily residing in PurokTolihaw, Brgy. 16.

He said the victim, Ryan Olive Perez, 34, of PurokBalunggay, Brgy 28, who sustained two stab wounds, failed to submit a medical certificate to be used in the filing of the case against Emit before the expiration of the reglamentary period.

They also have to send the homemade shotgun with 12-gauge live ammunitions recovered from Emit to the PNP Crime Laboratory, he also said. He added they have to complete these documents to be able to file the case against Emit, who is now at large.

Meanwhile, in Bacolod City, a man was axed in the head when he tried to confront his brother-in-law Monday night, police records showed yesterday.

The victim was identified as Ivan Firma, 48, of Purok Masanag, Brgy. 6.

The report showed that Firma rushed to the house of his brother-in-law, Billy Amarsolo, to confront him about family issues. During the heated argument, Jose Santander, 42, suddenly struck Firma in his head with an axe.

Santander was arrested at about 9 p.m. Monday and is now detained at the Bacolod City Police Station 2 lockup cell, while Firma is being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, the report added.*LTG

BCPO expects hike in
robbery, snatching

Cases in robbery, holdup and snatching are expected to increase during the Christmas Season and Bacoleños are reminded to take care of their belongings when shopping, Senior Supt. Ricardo dela Paz, Bacolod City police director, said yesterday.

Dela Paz said money circulation in December increases because of Christmas bonuses and other company incentives, so perpetrators always keep their eyes open as to when and where to attack their victims.

He said one must have a companion when shopping, or when buying groceries, since culprits always target those who shop alone, especially the elderly ones.

Elderly people must also be accompanied when withdrawing money from banks as they have become the prime victims of “budol-budol” gangs, he added.*LTG
