A Double-O Seven
What a fun-filled evening it was when the Sunshine Boys held a “Double-O Seven” joint birthday celebration for seven of its members recently.
When we walked into the venue at L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City, we were struck by the unique décor that featured a giant caricature of James Bond as a backdrop for the stage. Each table had a menacing machine gun centerpiece complete with bullets. Some had ‘time bombs’ ready to explode. Wow, we felt that we were in for an exciting evening, indeed!
Suddenly the sounds of the James Bond opening theme song filled the room and in walked the birthday boys looking deadly in their outfits of sartorial elegance. Very James Bond, talaga! Some looked like Sean Connery in “From Russia with Love”, a few looked like Daniel Craig in “Skyfall”, while the others looked like…never mind.
A loud burst of applause from the guests greeted their dramatic entrance. The band played Happy Birthday while the celebrators toasted themselves with their drinks, “shaken not stirred”, ala Bond.
To open up the program, the Sunshine Boys did their famous “Line Dance” to the tune of “Achy Breaky Heart”. The emcee, lawyer Willie Mirano, kept the audience in stitches with his witty ad libs. Dinner was a gustatory feast of superb cuisine which even James Bond would have enjoyed. The guests were entertained with fantastic dance numbers by pretty young ladies who amazed everyone with their dancing skills.
Ballroom dancing was the top favorite of the crowd, who danced like there was no tomorrow. Big, big cash prizes were given away to the lucky winners who couldn’t believe their luck.
Kudos to the Sunshine Boys for a smashing “Double-O Seven” birthday celebration. It was a blast!*
