CRUZ ORDERS
Probe allegations of
payola for cops

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The Bacolod City Police Office and the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office were ordered by Police Regional Office-6 Director Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz yesterday to investigate allegations of their colleague that five policemen in the province are receiving “payola” from illegal gambling operators.

Cruz told Senior Superintendents Ricardo de la Paz and Milko Lirazan, director and officer-in-charge of BCPO and NOPPO, respectively, to look into the allegation of Police Officer 3 Richard Delasa, and immediately submit a report to him.

He said there will not be any sacred cows as far as the investigation on the allegations is concerned.

Delasa, a former member of the Regional Special Operations Group of Police Regional Office-6 before he went absent without leave in October this year, made the “expose” at the Fernandina Media Forum at the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City, Wednesday.

He also recently filed a complaint against his colleagues before the Department of Interior and Local Government, with the help of Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz.

Considering the seriousness of his accusations Delasa should show up and present evidence so those who are guilty will be held criminally and administratively liable, Cruz said.

Although he had seen a copy of Delasa’s letter to Bishop Cruz, Cruz refused to identify the policemen being accused of receiving gambling payola as the complaint linking them to illegal gambling remains mere accusations while no evidences have been presented against them.

De la Paz and Lirazan said that they are prepared and ready to cooperate in the investigation to be conducted.*APN
