Bago City is staging a bigger and grander musical symphony of fireworks at the Manuel Y. Torres Sports Complex on January 1, Bago Vice Mayor Nicholas Yulo announced yesterday.
Fireworks will dance to music from the Summer Olympics themes and a popular pop song as Bago stages its 5th annual “Lights of Bago”, dubbed “The Biggest Event”, to usher in the new year in Negros Occidental, David Villanueva of Spectra Illuminators said.
Vilanueva said the “Lights of Bago” will cost P450,000.
Mayor Manuel Torres said the January 1 fireworks display that will last for 20 minutes is “a thanksgiving and a celebration of the strength of every Bagonhon.”
To ensure the safety of spectators, a Security, Traffic and Crowd Control Committee has been created, Brian Martir, Lights of Bago traffic and security head, said.
The symphony of fireworks will start at 7 p.m. with a prayer, the singing of the National Anthem and the messages of the mayor and vice mayor.
The second “Lights of Bago” photo contest for photographers and hobbyists will also be held, Yulo said.
Category A is for those aged 20 and below, and Category B for 21 years and above.
Winners of Category A will receive P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000 for first, second and third places, respectively, while winners of Category B will win P7,000, P5,000 and P3,000 for first, second, and third places, respectively.
Registration forms, which include the rules and mechanics, are available at the Bago City Tourism Office.
Yulo said the public is invited to the Bantayan boulevard of Bago City after the fireworks show for a street party with a live band.*CPG back
