No LP oath-taking for Caña
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

There was no oath-taking as announced for former Bacolod City Councilor and Congressional candidate Lyndon Caña as new Liberal Party member at the Bacolod Pavillon Resort Hotel yesterday.

Instead, he was adopted by the local LP members as a guest candidate for 2013 mid-term election.

This is because the National LP Directorate communicated with the party’s local district chapter heads in Bacolod last week and advised them to hold in abeyance the oath-taking of Caña for still unknown reason, the party’s district chairman, Frank Carbon said yesterday.

Whether or not Caña will be sworn into the LP as a member, Carbon said, depends on their national directorate.

In a joint statement, Carbon and LP-Bacolod District chairman emeritus Andres Hagad explained that they decided to adopt Caña as their Congressional candidate because he and their party have the same objective, which is to attain a clean and honest electoral exercise and a transparent and effective government.

Hagad said that about 95 percent of their members in Bacolod are supporting Caña’s candidacy and more are expected to express their support.

Caña said that aside from Hagad and Carbon, among the LP members who also expressed their support to him were Edwin Balajadia, Archie Baribar, Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, Frank Carbon, Ray Carmona, El Cid Famillaran and Mario Gerona.

On his reaction to the decision of the LP national directorate to hold his oath-taking, Caña said that he believes the possible reason could be the alliance of the Nationalist People’s Coalition and LP.

Another reason could be his stand against the Reproductive Health Bill since most of the LP members are pro-RH, he added.

Despite not being admitted as LP member, Caña said, he is grateful because he was adopted as guest candidate and promised to reciprocate the support of the party’s local officers and members.*APN
