Illegal vendors occupying the alleys in some major thoroughfares in Bacolod City will be taken out to ease traffic congestion, City Administrator John Orola said yesterday.
Orola said he has observed that traffic jams, especially around the Bacolod City Central market and the Public Plaza, are caused by illegal vendors displaying their goods in the streets.
Bacolod Traffic Management Unit head Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche said it will be a great relief from traffic congestion if the illegal vendors are removed from these areas as they are not supposed to be vending in the streets.
However, Orola said that, in the spirit of the Yuletide season, they will defer the plan of removing the illegal vendors from the city’s main thoroughfares.
He said they will look for areas where they can be transferred and one probable place is the vendor’s plaza at the Bacolod reclamation area that has been idle for several years now.
Before that, however, the market has to be repaired to make it more convenient for both sellers and customers, Orola said.
Last week, the City Legal Enforcement Unit led by Ceasar Beloria started dismantling some of the stalls at the public plaza being used for the sale of ready-to-wear clothes.
The stalls in front the San Sebastian Cathedral will also be dismantled because it is becoming an eye sore, Orola said
Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra and Mayor Evelio Leonardia have agreed to the e resurvey of the public plaza to determine which part is owned by the city government, and which one by the Church, Orola also said.*APN back
