Diesto, Ison win 3rd
golds in athletics

After topping the secondary girls’ triple jump in the morning, Mary Anthony Diesto of Bacolod Tay Tung High School went on to win the gold in 100-meter dash in the afternoon to collect her third gold in the 2012 Palarong Panlalawigan (Provincial Meet) at the Panaad Park and Sports Stadium yesterday.

Also earning his third gold medal in the meet was Jhonly Ison of Area VII, who dominated the secondary boys’ triple jump and 400m hurdles.

It was a close race for Diesto, teammate Sheila Hernandez, and Erma Rose Gamao of Area I, in the 100 meters as they finished the race a fraction of a second ahead of each other. Diesto registered 12.37 seconds, Hernandez timed in at 12.59 and Gamao, 12.69 seconds.

In triple jump, Diesto leap to a distance of 11.39 meters to crown herself as the best jumper in secondary girls’ this year after taking the long jump gold on Monday. Batang Pinoy gold medalist Ailyn Tumbali picked up the silver for Area IV with her 10.79m leap, while Kimberly Natan of Area II settled for the bronze with her 10.68m mark.

In the secondary boys’ events, Ison accounted two of the three gold medals Area VII grabbed yesterday with a dominant finish in triple jump and 400 hurdles.

His 13.24-meter leap in triple jump earned him the gold as Cesar Fernandez of Area II registered 12.84m for silver and Ronnie Lowel Salvador of Area I posted 12.76 for the bronze.

In winning the gold in hurdles, Ison clocked in 58.56 seconds, more than a second ahead of Rodolf Dave Orbita of Area IV (59.90), who settled for silver and Enrich Empio of Area VIII (1:00.18), who salvaged the bronze.

Area VII also had a strong finish in 100 meters as Christopher Lirazan collected his second gold medal in the meet with a time of 10.88 seconds, while NOPSSCEA’s Jay Patrick Nietes had a time of 11.09 seconds and Jeffer Sitiota of Area IV, 11.27 seconds. It was a second gold medal for Lirazan after dominating the 400-meter run in day one.

Despite the outstanding performances of NOPSSCEA (Area VIII) in secondary girls Area VII in secondary boys competition yesterday, Area V remained ahead in the medal tally with nine gold medals after topping four events yesterday.

Shot put golden girl Rhealyn Flores captured her second gold yesterday in elementary girls’ discus throw, relegating to second place Franz Gela Bintad of Area I, and Quezie Brigole of Area II to third place.

Alliah Loren Garland added another gold medal to Area V’s collection by winning the elementary girls 100-meter dash, as Miguela Lamag of Area II finished second and Jessica de la Cruz of Area I, at third.

After taking winning the elementary boys’ long jump, Arnel Gentega sprinted to a golden finish in 100 meters yesterday for his second gold medal, as Christian Andre Baniel of NOPSSCEA secured the silver, and Jev Ternal of Area VII, the bronze. Gentega also won the silver in triple jump that was dominated by Judipher Caranza of Area II, while Marc Adrian Valderama of Area V, picked up the bronze.

Area V’s ninth gold medal was delivered yesterday by Kholine Gedalang in secondary boys’ discus throw as he hurled the metal disc to a distance of 34.09 meters, while Jason Ramos (27.88) of Area IV finished second, and Joebe Panhilason Jr. (26.88) of NOPSSCEA landed at third.

It was also a second gold medal yesterday for Johny Mayongque of Area I as he ruled the 3,000 steeple with a time of 10 minutes and 38.39 seconds, with Jose Lapuos of Area III taking the silver and Joshua Reyes of Area V, the bronze.

Other winners in yesterday’s competition: elementary boys’ 400m hurdles - Arlo Tenero (Area IV, 1:12.72), Lester Joseph Pillada (Area V, 1:13.82), and Janry Punzalan (Area III, 1:15.37).

Elementary boys’ discus throw – Charlie Tiano (Area I, 20.99), Dodjie Guanzon (Area V, 20.90), Cyril Trompeta (Area III, 20.80).

Elementary girls’ 400m hurdles – Mary Jane Hiligan (Area I, 1:13.77), Camille Villaruel (Area III, 1:16.48), Rechel Emleo (Area II, 1:18.90).

Elementary girls’ triple jump – Erica Billones (Area II, 9.58m), Reina del Rosario (Area II, 9.50m), and Rosemarie Salazar (Area I, 9.03m).

Secondary girls’ 3,000-meter run – Nina Abadilla (Area I, 11:35.31), Jeramie Maribao (Area I, 11:40.33), Mary Grace Lallen (Area VII, 11.47.41).

Secondary girls’ 400m hurdles – Kim Cyra Pedrina (Area III, 1:08.58), Kenia Pearl Perfas (Area VII, 1:08.63), and Jennifer Asumbrado (Area I, 1:09.82).

Secondary girls’ discus throw – Aira Teodosio (Area III, 32.33m), Rezil Josol (Area I, 27.89m), and Riva Cario (Area VII, 27.73m).*NAB
