Area VII strengthens grip
on secondary boys' events

Christopher Lirazan of the Ramonito Maravilla National High School in Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod City, dominated the secondary boys' 200-meter run to capture his third gold in the meet and strengthen the hold of Area VII in high school boys' athletics of the 2012 Palarong Panlalawigan (Provincial Meet) at the Panaad Park and Sports Stadium.

The 17-year-old old sprinter, who will graduate from high school next year, won the gold earlier in 400-meter and 100-meter events and is expected to see action today in the relay events.

The second son of a policeman from Kabankalan City , Lirazan had been a consistent medalist in the Provincial Meet under the banner of Area VI before he opted to transfer to Bacolod City this year.

He topped the 200-meter run yesterday with a time of 22.50 seconds, while Jeffer Sitiota of Area IV registered 23.46 seconds to grab the silver and Jay Patrick Nietes of Area VIII (NOPSSCEA) settled for the bronze with his time of 23.54 seconds.

Area VII also earned three more gold medals yesterday from secondary boys high jump courtesy of Alexis Soquino, Joecie Beranio in secondary girls 200 meters, and Jev Ternal in elementary boys' 200 meters.

Trailing behind with three gold medals in day 3 of competition in athletics was Area II as Miguela Lamag and Jodipher Caranzo booked their second gold medals in the meet by topping the elementary girls and boys' high jump, respectively.

Coached by Norven Ledesma, Lamag earlier topped the elementary girls' long jump, while Caranzo was No. 1 in elementary boys' triple jump.

Area IV had two gold medals yesterday from the 1, 500-meter run as veteran long distance runner Louielyn Pamati-an won the even in secondary girls division and May Therese Gula in elementary girls' department.

Area I, mentored by Voltaire Tiperal and assisted by coaches Joseph Casas and Rex Serad, secured the gold in 1,500 meters elementary and secondary boys' courtesy of Rodgie Palones and Jonie Mayongue.

Area V slowed down with their gold medal harvest from athletics yesterday with a lone gold from Neslie Torres in secondary girls' high jump. Area III also had one gold from Claire Abellano in elementary girls 200 meters.

BOXING

In boxing, Area VII made its mark in elementary boys' 34 kg as Shechen Lirazan beat Daniel Francisco for the gold, while Warbel John Panoga prevailed over Area V's Mario Bautista to top the secondary boys' 30 kg.

Other winners in elementary boxing were Charyl Tison (Area III) 32 kg. and Mark Anthony Montinola (Area V) in 49 kg.

Joining the list of winners in secondary boys' boxing were Elmar Daoma (Area I) in 38 kg., Hargie Montaño (Area IV), in 40 kg., and Ren Orcada (Area VII) in 43 kg.

TABLE TENNIS

It was a sweep for Area VII in table tennis as their paddlers prevailed in both elementary and secondary boys and girls' competition.

Members of the elementary boys' champion team are: Areanel Theofer Ariola, Elijah David Bomban, Niel John Lauren, an Elmer Locsin. Coach is Maricar Servinas with Edmund Garganian as trainer.

The elementary girls team is composed of Ann Gella Barbon, Edria Garganian, Jesslene Emille Mallen, and Alyssa Toleco with coach Marlon Servinas and Noel Cadiz as trainer.

BADMINTON

Area VIII (NOPSSCEA) ranked No. 1 in the overall standing in elementary boys and girls badminton as Cody Torres topped the boys' singles and the tandem of Sean Justin De Jesus and Justin Daniel Anglo dominating the boys' doubles.

In the girls' division, Mia Manguilimotan of Area III edged Katrina Togado of Area VIII, but the NOPSSCEA team avenged the loss in girls' doubles as Yana Ysabel Chua and Susmita Ramos beat Joela Yana Angolo and Via Camille Medel of Area III.*NAB
