Chartered flights from the Incheon International Airport in South Korea to the Bacolod-Silay Airport will resume in January next year, Bacolod City Administrator John Orola yesterday.
Orola said the test for the nine chartered flights will be from January 10 until February 7 and is expected to bring in 1,400 to 1,500 South Korean nationals.
There will be five chartered flights every Thursday to Incheon South Korea, beginning January 10 and four during Sundays, he said.
Modetour Network Incorporated, the travel agency that will bring the South Koreans, is now in negotiations with the Philippine Airlines, as their official carrier Orola also said.
In their letter to Bacolod City dated December 14, Modetour Network Incorporated's chief Executive Officer Ki Jeong Hong asked for the help of Mayor Evelio Leonardia and the city government to push for the installation of Customs Immigration and Quarantine at the Bacolod-Silay Airport.
Orola said the city government is willing to help the South Korean travel agency in their needs so the chartered flights will push through. He said they are also meeting with the Bureau of Immigration on the matter.
The South Koreans stopped the chartered flights to Bacolod Silay Airport that begun last year because they were not satisfied with some of the facilities at the golf courses in the province.
However, when they inspected the two golf courses in the province, they realized that improvements, have already been made so they decided to resume the chartered flights.
Leonardia said this is good news for Bacolod and assured the South Korean travel agencies of full cooperation, so the chartered flights from Incheon to Bacolod Silay Airport will resume.*APN
