DTI helping
OTOP food makers

Ten food producers of One Town, One Product are being assisted by the Department of Trade and Industry in their  product packaging and labeling to  improve their marketability and branding.

Engiemar Tupas  of Department of Trade and Industry in Negros Occidental, yesterday said they need to provide technical assistance to food producers to help reduces losses,  and increase their market.

Tupas said most food producers do not consider the safety  and shelf life of their products and most of them have no knowledge of the appropriate materials to use.

The technical assistance will also enhance physical appearance of their products, and later  lead to the increase of their sales, he said.

Apart from the quality and taste of the products, buyers also look at the branding and packaging and sometimes, they decide   to purchase the product  based on the way they  displayed and presented, Tupas said.

DTI currently has seven OTOP food producers  including  RoseMarie dela Torre, Elvira Lomar, and Cheryl Benigay, all of Kabankalan City, Rommel Gensaya of Himamaylan City, Tristan Mar of Sagay City, Juvilyn Potot of San Carlos City, and Cecilia Guanco of Silay City.

Tupas said they are  evaluating three more OTOP food producers to complete the list.

The beneficiaries will attend an orientation on packaging and labeling and one-on-one consultations with the designer to help them create the layout and modifications for their final design, he added. *LTG
