Two radiomen sued
by mayor out on bail

BY ADRIAN NEMES III
The two broadcasters with arrest warrants for libel who surrendered to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Bacolod City Monday were released yesterday after posting bail of P10,000 each .

DYAF Radyo Veritas block time broadcasters Larry Concepcion of Valladolid and Chito Berjit of Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod, were charged by Valladolid town Mayor Romel Yogore in 2010 for issues they raised on air about alleged irregularities in his town.

Bago City Regional Trial Court Judge Frances Guanzon issued the arrest warrants against them.

Yogore said he filed the charges against Concepcion while Valladolid Municipal Agriculturist Officer Geovani Robles filed the complaint against Berjit for maligning them over their radio program several times.

Yogore said Concepcion and Berjit did not allow them to air their sides on the issues they hurled against him. He added that they had settled the matter in the presence of Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navara, where the two broadcasters promised not to malign them anymore, but a few weeks later, they again bombarded them on air.

Yogore said he believes that the accusations against him and Robles by the two broadcasters have something to do with his decision of removing their relative from an office in the town.

Berjit, meanwhile, said the accusations they aired against Yogore and Robles had bases, with evidence and were not fabricated.

He said they invited Yogore to air his side several time but the mayor did not accept the invitation.

Berjit also said that they decided to surrender to CIDG as they were concerned about their safety.*APN
