There are of 1,326 Pantawid Program beneficiaries recorded in Dumaguete City from the 26 barangays with indigent families evaluated.
Provincial Pantawid Program Coordinator, Bella Tse, said Dumaguete is considered as one of the areas with only pockets of poverty compared to a municipality with higher poverty level.
The beneficiaries composed the final lists of families evaluated and verified through the Department of Social Welfare Office. The financial assistance to the Pantawid beneficiaries will be released this month.
The Advisory Committee and the City Action Team of Dumaguete recently underwent orientation with Compliance Verification Unit on National project monintoring office head Leonidas Canete that was attended by barangay officials, social workers, city health workers and teachers.
Canete said the members of the action team are very vital in the implementation of the Pantawid Program because they will be entrusted with in the monitoring of beneficiaries.
He said the barangay officials should continuously monitor the status of the beneficiaries while ensuring that they have complete with the requirements of the Pantawid program.
The program is intended for indigent families with children below 14 years old. It requires the parents or guardians to send the children to school and be provided with their needs. Failure to comply with all these requirements will be subjected to verification and possible cancellation that recipient of the Pantawid program.
Canete added the lists of beneficiaries should be properly sanitized to prevent problems in the release of financial assistance. Barangay officials should be aware that the assistance is intended for education and health purposes and should not be spent for acquiring appliances, among other caprices.MA*
