Young pugilists from Bago City brought home three golds, two silvers, and a bronze medal to claim the overall championship in the recent 2012 PLDT-ABAP Visayas Area Amateur Boxing Championship held in Dumaguete City.

The victorious boxing team from Bago was led by former national pool member James Palicte, who won the gold in the 60 kg. division, while Raymart Flores bagged the gold in 46 kg. and Adrian Dela Cruz in 50 kg.

Winning the silver for Bago were Ramonito Ladon (49 kg.) and Jesmar Jaga (52 kg), while Jeffrey Bagacay settled for bronze in 56 kg.

The team presented their medals to Mayor Ramon Torres, who commended the boxers for their accomplishment.

Supervising the training of the boxers and their participation in the ABAP tournament were City Sports Coordinator Ignacio Denila and Raymund Rodrigo.

The competition in Negros Oriental was part of ABAP’s continuing search for boys and girls aged 15 to 18 years who may be recruited into the national training pool.

ABAP executive director Ed Picson earlier said that those who will register an outstanding performance during the competition will have a chance to join the national pool and represent the country in international boxing tournaments, such as the Southeast Asian Games, the Asian Games, and even in the Olympics.*NAB
