Trapped 5-year-old
dies in burning hut
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

A 5-year-old girl who could neither walk nor talk who was trapped in the family’s burning hut in Sitio Candalaba, Brgy. Cabacungan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, died at about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Police identified the fatality as Jesil Sison, who could not get out of the house when the fire broke out.

Her mother, Gemma, told La Castellana policemen that Jesil was with her siblings LJ, 8, Eliza Mae, 7, Danny 3, and Dante, 1 when the incident happened, while she and her husband were at work.

Gemma said her children told her that LJ had lighted a candle and accidentally dropped it. The fire easily spread and her other children got out, while Jesil was left in the house and got trapped.

La Castellana Mayor Alberto Nicor said the fire truck of the town could not reach the area where the fire occurred as there are no accessible roads to it.

Nicor said the child’s family buried her at the town’s public cemetery. He also extended financial support and donated groceries to them.

The Sisons are now temporarily staying in the house of a relative.*APN
