Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.’s push to make Negros Occidental self- sufficient in ricehas gained national recognition, Department of Agriculture Regional Director Larry Nacionales said yesterday.
Nacionales said he has informed the governor that Negros Occidentalhas been judged one of the winners in the top 10 provinces category of the Agri-Pinoy Rice Achievers’ Awards.
Marañon, and provincial agriculturist Igmedio Tabianan, have been invitedto the awarding ceremoniesat the Philippine International Convention Center in Manilaon February 10.
The governor has also been asked tobring along a project proposal outline for the province’s P4 million award, Nacionales added.
Nacionales saidthe provincial government is being recognized for having increased rice yield performance in Negros Occidental and its contribution to total the rice production of the country.
The DA evaluation team for the awards also noted the provincial government’s commitment through large investments, even from its local funds, to boost agriculture in Negros Occidental, Nacionales said.
Nacionales said Moises Padilla town and agri technicians from Negros Occidental are also Agri Pinoy Rice Achievers Awardees this year.*CPG back
