Abaring leads Talisay in
2nd Fil-Sino victory

A 6-0 run in the final minutes of the game allowed Talisay City to get away with a 96-91 against UNO-R Polvora’s Law Office and notched its second win in the 12th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym, Saturday.

In Class A, University of St. La Salle-NHOJ’s tamed Fil-Sino Bmeg Mang Inasal, 95-82.

Converting a free throw in the fourth quarter, Tata Javillo managed to put UNO-R on top at 82-81, but Talisay responded with a four-point play from Sonny Abaring and two free throws from Ervin De La Peña to take the lead.

Javillo scored the next seven points for UNO-R and Xylesis Herdon scored to cut the lead at 91-91, but Abaring once again, came to the rescue for Talisay with a three-point play.

He also grabbed an offensive rebound after the two missed free throws by teammate Mamerto Santillan to seal Talisay’s victory.

Abaring finished with 22 points, Laborte delivered 14, De La Peña picked up 13, Salazar and Mamerto Santillan with 12 points each.

Joemel Paderog led Polvora Law Office with 19 points but fouled out midway in the fourth quarter. He was backstopped by Riche Santillan with 16 points, Herdon 15, and Javillo, 12 points.

The second game, meanwhile, was a contrast of style as Fil-Sino relied on its slow break low post offense, while USLS tried to quicken the pace with their fastbreak attacks.

B-meg Mang Inasal was on top at the half, 41-39, but USLS broke away in the second half as they got their running game going.

USLS was led by Arturo Cuaresma with points, Harvey Eslawa added 16, Nikos Cuenca shot 14, Scott Salvacion and Carl Antiporda delivered 8 points each.

Ritchie Militante paced Fil-Sino with 15 points, Robbie Jalando-on scored 13, Carl John Oquindo made 11 points, Jason Milarin and Arnold Gono with 10 points each, and Richard Caberte, 8 points.

Earlier, Buddy Johann Kendrick made it 2-0 as it routed N-RICH multipurpose cooperative, 99-75, in a Class B encounter.

Mark Coo led Buddy with 26 points, Vincent Javelosa had 21, Mark Binguan 16, and Charlton Ong 12.

Buddy spoiled the 31-point output of Julius Teruel for N-RICH with teammate Adonis Rosales adding 20 points.

88 Chinatown Square stayed atop the leaderboard in Class B with its third straight win against Nena’s Rose Shopping, 96-86.*NAB
