Farm workers march
on for full land distribution

About 1,000 members of Task Force Mapalad joined the first day yesterday of the nationwide lakbayan campaign in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental calling on President Benigno Aquino III to fast track land distribution under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms.

The march, which also started partly in Cadiz City and La Castellana town and will converge in Bacolod City tomorrow.

Lanie Factor, TFM assistant deputy coordinator said Aquino is slacking and has a very low performance in land distribution and support services to farmer-beneficiaries.

She said the Department of Agrarian Reform should find ways to reach its targeted land distribution this year and dispense their back logs of the previous years.

She also said that CARPer should not end unless all lands covered under the program are given out to the beneficiaries.

“If extension is needed after 2014, then, it must be extended because this is what the farmers need,” Factor said.

Today, the group from the north of Negros will travel from Victorias City to Talisay City and members from the south will start from Valladolid to go to Bago City, she added.

TFM-Negros will also hold a stage rally at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon tomorrow while its Manila counterpart will start its campaign on Friday.*LTG
