aid, PSWD asked

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo yesterday ordered the provincial social welfare  and development office  to fast track the release of financial assistance to victims of tropical storm Sendong that hit the province in December of last year.

Degamo directed PSWD officer Alice Lagarde to release the amount intended for the victims in two weeks.

Victims numbering 1,404 whose houses were destroyed will receive P5,000 each in cash, and 3,298 victims with damaged houses will receive P2,500 each or a total of 4,702 victims.

The governor said this is long overdue adding that source P15.6 million in funds had been identified from the Quick Response Fund of the calamity fund, and from donations amounting to P1.7 million.

Degamo has also authorized the release of P100,000 from the quick response fund for the rehabilitation of the Baslay hot spring in Dauin.

Third Dist. Board member representing the. Rodrigo Alanano has requested for the amount and is offering to personally supervise rehabilitation works .

Alanano said the hot spring is considered a national tourist spot and must be restored immediately.  If funds are released, he said restoration and rehabilitation will take only at most, two weeks.*JG
