Bacollywood
opens tomorrow

The Bacollywood: Cinema Rehiyon 4, the National Independent Film and Video Art Festival, opens tomorrow.

The opening program hosted by Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon will start 9 a. m. at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol Building in Bacolod City.

Free film screenings will be held at Robinsons Movieworld Cinema 6 during the 4-day festival that ends on Saturday, Mariano Montelibano, Festival Director said.

He also said Negros has contributed significantly to the development of alternative cinema in the Philippines and has become one of the fertile training grounds that inspire not only the making of films but the pursuit of a way of thinking that liberates rather than constricts.

As a stamp of affirmation, Bacolod City is the venue for this pilot project of the National Commission Culture and the Arts that builds premium on movies created outside of Metro Manila, he added.

The film festival features short and full feature films reflective of culture, produced by emerging Filipino filmmakers and set in various regions of the Philippines, he said.

The festival will bring together stakeholders, professionals and students of the growing independent filmmaking movement and will serve as a venue for discourse and creative learning, he also said.

Cine de Barrio also continues to make the films accessible to the larger public through screenings in public viewing venues of key barangays in the city. Also, the emerging art form recognized internationally as Video Art Installation will be featured at both Negros Museum and Gallery Orange, he added.*CPG
