Policemen apprehend
couple for carnapping

A couple suspected of victimizing rent-a-car businesses were arrested by the police when they allegedly failed to return the car they rented in Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, at about 10:45 p.m. Friday.

Police identified the arrested couple as Mae Tanjusay, 24, of Bel Air Subdivision in Brgy. Tangub, and Nicholas Alova, 32, of Begornia Street in Brgy. Mansilingan, both in Bacolod.

A red Mitsubishi Adventure was recovered from the couple while the plate number of the car was found inside it, police reports said.

The police also confiscated a spare tire, a scythe measuring 12 and a half inches long, several pieces of clothes and several documents, police records also showed.

Roy Apurada, 36, of Burgos Poblacion Street in Valladolid, Negros Occidental, reported that at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, Alova, who introduced himself as “Reynaldo Ogabang” of Eroreco Subdivision, rented his vehicle at P1,800 a day.

Apurada said Alova, who was with Tanjusay, gave him P1,000 as initial payment. He added that he was able to talk to the real Reynaldo Ogabang later that day, who told him that his driver’s license had been lost.

Apurada then coordinated with the Bacolod City Police and gave the plate number and the description of the vehicle rented from him by Alova were flashed to all police stations. The couple was intercepted in Purok Kaingin in Brgy. Singcang-Airport.

Investigation showed that the couple is also involved in cockfight thievery in the area of Police Station 3.

City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said they will verify if the couple have victimized other rent-a-car establishments in Bacolod and other areas.*APN
