Floodwaters hit Talisay
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Rising floodwaters in the Minilu-an River in Talisay City, yesterdayprompted 22 families living near it to evacuate from their homes.

On Tuesday night, a cargo trailer, loaded with sugarcane, also fell into a river embankment in Brgy. Zone 14, Talisay City.

Mayor Eric Saratan, who witnessed the rescue of the affected families, yesterday said more than 700 families in seven Talisay City barangays, were affected by the flash flood, which triggered by heavy rains that lasted for several hours.

Supt. Thomas Joseph Martir, Talisay police chief, however, said the affected families returned to theirhomes, after the water subsided.

Saratan, who presided over a disaster meeting, led the distribution of relief goods to the flood victims.

In Bacolod City several flood-prone areas in Purok Riverside in Brgy. Banago, Santa Clara in Brgy. Mandalagan, Brgys. Bata, 3,4 and 6 were also flooded. However, there was no reported evacuation.

The RADIANT search and rescue group of Talisay City, as well as that of the Chamber Brigade assisted in the evacuation of families, who had temporarily abandoned their homes.*GPB
