Capitol-Ayala deal

A resolution requesting the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council through the Mayor’s Office to conduct regular city-wide earthquake drills for all sectors, was passed by the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Bacolod City Wednesday.

Authored by Councilor Homer Bais, the resolution said the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit Negros Monday was an eye-opener.

It is high time that a massive information campaign be conducted so Bacolod residents will be prepared for any disaster that may occur, it said.

SM group eyeing
huge land firm

MANILA - The Philippines' richest man is in talks to take control of one of the country's main real estate firms, which has major parcels of undeveloped land in the nation's capital, his company said yesterday.

The SM Group of ethnic-Chinese tycoon Henry Sy confirmed it was eyeing a majority stake in the holding company that developed Ortigas business district, an important financial hub in Manila.

"We confirm that SM Group is in the process of discussion for the acquisition of majority interest in Ortigas Holdings Inc.," the company said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.

75,581 workers deployed

The Public Employment Service Office in Bacolod City has deployed 75,581 overseas and local workers for 2011, Moises de la Cruz, PESO manager and Executive Assistant to Mayor Evelio Leonardia, said yesterday.

A total of 67,259 jobseekers were hired through local agencies like business process outsourcing, SM SuperMalls, Cliques Security Agencies, and other local establishments in Bacolod City, PESO monitoring report showed.

The 8,322 jobseekers were deployed through licensed recruitment agencies that conducted job fairs with PESO, de la Cruz said.
