Army promotes Caro

An Army general who used to be the 303rd Infantry Brigade commander in Negros Occidental, is now the new chief of staff of the Philippine Army.

Brig. Gen. Maximo Caro yesterday took over the position from Brig. Gen.Rolando Tenefrancia, who was designatedcommander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Civil Relations Service.

Caro, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy, Class 1982. After his stint in the province, Caro was assignedas commandant of the (PMA) Corps of Cadets.

The turnover of command ceremony at theArmy headquarters in Fort Andres Bonifacio was presided over by Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Bautista, commanding general of the 85,000-strong Philippine Army.

Col. Rey Leonardo Guerrero, former 61st Infantry Battalion commander in southern Negros, was also named incoming commanding officer of the 701st Infantry Brigade in Mindanao.

Guerrero served as the senior military aide of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and was assigned to the Presidential Security Group, before he headed Task Force Davao, which used to be commanded by Col. Oscar Lactao.

Col. Norman Flores, who succeeded Guerrero as 61IB commander, is reportedly being groomed as the next Task Force Davao chief.

Flores, Lactao, Guerrero and Col. John Ayeng, also a former 61IB commander who is now the deputy commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade, are all members of PMA Class 1984.*GPB
