‘Pureza’ draws big crowd
The premier of the documentary “Pureza: The Story of Negros Sugar” at Cinema 1 of ShoeMart in Bacolod Tuesday drew a huge crowd, which included sugar planters and government officials.
Together with Mila Chiu and Isabel Urra, we watched the documentary, whose executive producers are Jay Abello and Joey Gaston. Before the start of the screening they gave short messages on the making to documentary that took them three years to finish.
Producers of the film are Fiona Borres and Agnes Villar.
Msgr. GG Gaston led the opening prayer.
The documentary film tells of how sugarcane planting was introduced to Negros, how sugar mills were built and of the lavish lifestyles of the sugar barons.
It also tells of how sugar planters helped and supported the guerillas in the mountains during the Japanese occupation, of how Negrenses picked up their lives after the war, and of the struggles of the sugar industry during the Marcos regime.
