Education Secretary Armin Luistro and Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia signed a memorandum of agreement at the DepEd’s main office in Manila yesterday for a 50/50 partnership in the construction of a new elementary school on city property at the Reclamation Area in Bacolod City.
“I am glad that DepEd accepted our offer to be one of its partners in this school building program,” Leonardia said.
The partnership is one of the first that DepEd has closed with a local government unit, a City Hall press release said.
Under this partnership, the DepEd and Bacolod City will share 50/50 in the cost of constructing three school buildings with 48 rooms, Leonardia said.
This year, DepEd and Bacolod City are ready to contribute P12 million each in their partnership and will contribute regular funds in the coming years, the press release said.
The plan is to name the new school Education Training and Center School IV in order to increase the capability of ETCS to accept more students, the mayor said.
ETCS is a city school which has a well-established reputation and tradition for excellence, he added.
“I have committed myself to the education of the young. Education is one of my priorities. So, I greatly appreciate the support given to me by Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and Councilor Homer Bais, the chairman of Sanggunian Committee on Education,” Leonardia added.* back
