FARMERS TOLD
Sell palay to gov’t,
improve coop fund

Four registered farmers’ organizations in Negros Occidental have increased the amount in their Cooperative Development Incentive Fund with the National Food Authority through selling their palay produce to the agency, Cynthia Luz Chua, NFA senior grains operations officer, said yesterday.

Chua said the monetary incentive is given to FO’s which sell their produce to the NFA. This is meant as a revolving fund for the acquisition or rental of post harvest facilities, production facilities, purchase of production inputs, and as subsidy for their training expenses.

The four FOs are the San Isidro Farmers Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries-Multipurpose Cooperative, San Enrique Multipurpose Cooperative, Inayawan Part Farmers Association, and the United Negros Occidental Rice Retailers Multipurpose Cooperative.

Last year, San Isidro Farmers ARBMPC used P12,734.98 from their fund to purchase fertilizer, Chua said.

FO’s can also use their incentive fund to buy driers, threshers, shellers, moisture meters, weighing scales, equipment to prevent storage pests, and empty sacks, she added.

Their funds can be used as equity for the amortization of their loans, as long as they are eligible too, Chua said.

She said FOs receive a P0.30 for every kilo of palay sold to NFA and that goes directly to their incentive fund. The more palay they sell to NFA, the higher is their incentive fund, Chua added.

She also encouraged FOs to continue sell their palay produce to NFA to increase their incentive funds and those FOs who want to apply with for the CDIF program can visit their office. *LTG
