Fire destroys P2M
in property
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Two million pesos worth of properties turned to ashes when a fire, believed to be caused by an electrical short circuit, hit a two-storey ancestral home in Brgy. Singcang Airport, Bacolod City, yesterday.

City fire deputy marshal, Insp. Publio Ploteña, said they received a call from a concerned citizen at 1:13 a.m. that the residence of the late prosecutor Joe Soberano at Racquel Street was on fire.

Six fire trucks of the Bacolod City Bureau of Fire Protection assisted by the Amity and the Chamber fire volunteer brigades put the fire out at 1:40 a.m., Ploteña said.

Ploteña said no one was hurt because Soberano’s daughter-in law Christy Soberano, her children and their caretaker Rosita Celeste were able to immediately get out of the house. Her husband Michael, was at his work place at the Teleperformance call center when the fire occurred.

Investigation conducted by Senior Fire Officer 1 Harry Fernandez and Fire Officer 3 Cornelio Silva showed that the fire originated from a ceiling at the parking lot of the house.

Ploteña reminded the public to have their electrical connections checked by licensed electricians to avoid fires.*APN
