VP joining city’s
mass wedding

About 750 couples will exchange marriage vows on Valentine’s Day at the Bacolod City Government Center with Vice President Jejomar Binay as principal sponsor.

Anne Binay, the vice president’s appointments secretary, relayed to Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia that Binay accepted his invitation.

Leonardia yesterday said the mass wedding on Tuesday is the biggest in Bacolod City and probably in the whole country.

“We learned that Manila will have 300 couples and Cebu will have only 150,” he said.

Leonardia said he is glad that Binay will grace this historic event. “I am elated that Binay accepted my invitation as surely his presence will mean a lot to the couples to be wed and to their family and friends,” he said.

Binay will witness the mass wedding of 750 couples on Valentine’s Day at 4 p.m. on the grounds of Bacolod City Government Center.

The mass wedding on Tuesday has long been a regular program of the city under the Leonardia administration.

For this year, Pag-IBIG Fund will be a co-sponsor under its “I do, I do” project.

Mass wedding couples who are Pag-IBIG members will be entitled to take part in a raffle of a house and lot.

The newly-wed couples will be treated to a romantic dinner in front of the government center courtesy of the Pag-IBIG fund and businessman Ricardo Yanson, of the Ceres Transport Group.

Leonardia is inviting the family and friends of the mass wedding couples, and even the public, to witness the wonderful event.

He is encouraging them to hold picnic dinner on the grounds of the government center. However, he is asking them to refrain from bringing tables and chairs.*
