Philippine National Police Chief Nicanor Bartolome has suspended the newly installed head of Bacolod City Police Station 10, Senior Insp. Terrence Paul Santa Ana, for six months in compliance with an order of the Ombudsman for the military and other law enforcement offices in the Visayas.
Aside from Santa Ana, Bartolome also ordered the six-month suspension and forfeiture of salaries and other benefits of Police Officer 3 Anthony Alvarez, Police Officer 2 Arnold Alabanzas, and Police Officers 1 Joemar Efundo and Richard Ivan Lopez of the Iloilo City Police Mobile Group.
The suspensions took effect February 1 and will end on July 31.
Santa Ana, who received the suspension order on January 25, said that it stemmed from a case for grave abuse of authority and grave misconduct filed by Police Officer 1 Joebert Castillo of the Estancia town Police Station in Iloilo against them in 2010 when he was the deputy of the Iloilo City police mobile group.
The case was filed in retaliation for their filing charges for alarm and scandal and illegal possession of firearms against Castillo, whom they arrested in Brgy. Veterans in Iloilo City proper, Santa Ana said.
Santa Ana said he and the other policemen will file a motion for reconsideration.
Bacolod City Police Director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, who is the Vice President for the Visayas of the Philippine National Police Academy Alumni Association, said they are going to help Santa Ana file the motion for reconsideration.
De la Paz designated Senior Insp. Ruel Culanag as officer-in-charge of Police Station 10.*APN back
