BY BACOLOD CDRRM

The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council passed a resolution recommending that additional aid be given to earthquake victims in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, a press release from Bacolod City said.

Earlier, Bacolod City had sent food and bottled water, drawn from the reserves of Bacolod Cares, to the earthquake victims which were brought to Guihulngan by a rescue team led Bacolod Fire Marshall Chief Insp. Pamela Rojane Candido.

CDRRM action officer Joemarie Vargas said it will be Mayor Evelio Leonardia who will decide on the additional aid to give to the Guihulngan victims and that he expects a decision to be made this week.

Bacolod Cares, which the mayor reactivated last week, receives donations from the individuals and organizations who would like to give their help to calamity victims, the press release said.

It has two receiving stations: one at the lobby of the Bacolod Government Center and the other at the CDRRMS office at the City Hall.

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson assisted by Councilor Homer Bais andVargas conferred with a group of teachers who volunteered for the cleanup drive of the Clean and Green Task Force Saturday, the release said.

They took turns in giving the group information gathered on the city disaster drill program, a major component of the disaster risk reduction management system.

Vargas gave a short demonstration on what persons should do during an earthquake, the release said.

Leonardia announced that CDRRMC plans to hold disaster drill soon. “We will use the information and experiences gathered by the Bacolod volunteers who served in Guihulngan, such as the Chamber, Fire Department, Segull and CENECO, as inputs in designing earthquake drills,” he added.*
