Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday appealed to politicians to set aside politics during times of calamities and concentrate their efforts on helping their constituents who are suffering.
He said he is saddened that some relief assistance being sent to the victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Oriental Negros are being blocked. “Even the water sent to the victims are being hi-jacked,” he added.
Binay, who was in Bacolod City yesterday as the principal sponsor of the 755 couples who joined the mass wedding sponsored by the Pag-Ibig Fund, said he hopes there will be no politics involved in the distribution of relief assistance to the victims who are already in a pitiful state.
There have been reports that some relief assistance are being brought to the house of a politician so that the people will get them there, while there are some relief goods that bear the name of a certain politician.
Binay said it was upon the instruction of the President that he responded immediately to Oriental Negros. If he was the first to respond, it was part of the standing instruction of the President, he said.
When he arrived there, he distributed rice to the victims since NFA had a branch there, he said, adding that they also distributed water to the victims.*CGS back
