SJI booters win in Talisay

After their successful stint in the cities of San Carlos City and Kabankalan, where they won the crown, young booters from St. John’s Institute went on to win the title in the Mayor Dr. Eric National Football Festival 11-Under tournament played at the Carlos Hilado School in Talisay City.

The young SJI booters beat Bata Team in the shootout during the finals to win the crown. Scoring the precious goals for the Johnians were Jonathan Talbot, Paolo Go and Enrico Go.

En route to the championship match, SJI prevailed over their rivals, among them, were teams from Cebu and Iloilo.

Topping their group in the eliminations with an unbeaten record, the SJI 11-Under team blanked host Minulu-an Football Club, 2-0, in the semifinals to advance to the finals.

Also taking home the Most Valuable Player award in their age bracket was midfielder Bethany Talbot of SJI.

Coach Peter Talbot attributed their victory to the talent and hard work of the players.

Other members of the champion team were: Chris Miraflores, Chyle Miraflores, Ryan Ottao, Nathalie Glaraga, Ali Arricivita, and Michael Jan Baloyo.

Earlier, the SJI booters ruled the 10-Under 7-a-side tournament in San Carlos and dominated the competition in the same age group during the 2012 Sinulog 7-A-Side Football Festival in Kabankalan.*NAB
