Driver’s Cup opens in Silay

The 4th Mayor Oti Driver’s Cup 2012 Basketball Tournament opened in Silay City with 18 teams seeing action in the tournament, a press release from the Mayor’s Office said.

Leading the ceremonial toss during the opening ceremony was Mayor Jose Montelibano, who cited the tricycle, trisikad, and jeepney drivers for joining the competition despite their hectic schedules.

Seeing action in the tournament are teams representing: SSHATODA, SELTODA, STRITODA, MATAGOY WOLF, KAPUSOTODA B, BERAÑO BLADE, KAPUSOTUDA A, IRAN Boys, SIPTDOC-MPC, A. SLASHERS, LATODA, SUCIPTODA-A, SUCIPTODA Cooperative, SUCIPTODA Selection, SCOTDA, SUPER Boys, FIVE Boys and ATENTA, the press release said.

Silay Assistant Sports Coordinator Glen Dacula said the tournament is a friendly competition among the public transport drivers in the city.

Montelibano, meanwhile, encouraged the drivers to develop the value of sportsmanship as well as to be proud of being a Silaynon, the press release said.

Also supporting the tournament are Vice Mayor Mark Golez, ABC president Joedith Gallego and Silay Sports Committee head Hector Gamboa, the press release added. *
