Robbers kill
bodyguard, take P2M
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Two suspected hold-uppers, riding in tandem on a motorcycle, shot and killed the bodyguard of a sugar trader, and took P2 million in cash  from the secretary of his employer Wednesday in Brgy. 4, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, police said.

Celso Cari-an, a bodyguard of sugar trader Herminia Ledesma, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds  after he was shot by the suspects, Supt. Calixto Mabugat, Kabankalan police chief,  said in his report to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said.

Cari-an,67, tried to stop the two suspects from getting the bag of Cheryll Begota, 32, secretary of Ledesma,  that  contained P2 million in cash, when he was shot by the suspects,  initial investigations of the Kabankalan police showed.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Southern Negros Doctor’s Hospital, while the  suspects fled on board a Kawasaki Bajaj motorcycle, with plate number 4378 XJ,  owned by Ronald Mana-ay Sr.,  that  they had allegedly   taken forcibly.

Mabugat , however, said the two suspects left behind a black XRM 125 motorcycle with chassis number KPG00020591 and engine number KPG00E020597 at the crime scene, and recovered  six spent shells and three slugs of .45 caliber pistol, as well as two bundles of returned checks of the Bank of Commerce.

The  identities of the two suspects, who have criminal records for robbery and violation of RA 9165, or  the Dangerous Drug Act of 2002, were reported to have  been established already by the police.*GPB
