Wife’s lover tagged
in slay of hubby

BY LEONY MAY RUIZ

A farmer was shot and killed by his wife’s alleged lover, who is also his relative, at about 10:35 a.m. on Valentine’s Day in Murcia town, Negros Occidental.

The victim’s daughter, 16, whose name is being withheld, told the police that she informed her father about the alleged romantic relationship of her mother and the suspect, Roger dela Paz, 33, of of Brgy. Buenavista, Murcia, Senior Police Officer 4 Antonio Lorenzo, investigator on case, said.

She said her father then went to the house of the suspect, where they argued and the shooting eventually ensued.

The victim, 53, whose name the police withheld, died on the spot, while de la Paz was arrested at his residence, Lorenzo said.

He added that they believe the suspect used a homemade shotgun or “pugakhang” in the killing, based on the wounds of the victim, although they failed to recover the firearm.

In a television interview, De la Paz admitted the relationship with the victim’s wife, but denied killing him.

De la Paz is now detained at the lock-up cell of the Murcia town police while charges are now being readied against him.*
