giving more aid

Rep. Alfredo Abelaro Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) led the House of Representatives Movement 188 in donating aid to the earthquake hit areas of Negros Oriental, a press release from his office said yesterday.

Other groups from Negros Occidental who have also been delivering assistance are the Central Negros Electric Cooperative and Gawad Kalinga-Negros Occidental.

Half of the P1 million donated by Movement 188, came from Benitez, the press release said.

Aside from the convenors of Movement 188, House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte and the Region 6 congressmen Antonio Del Rosario (Capiz), Alfredo Marañon (Negros Occidental), Arthur Defensor Jr. (Iloilo) and Joaquin Carlos Rahman Nava (Guimaras) also contributed to the fund, Benitez said.

Movement 188 convenors who contributed to the fund are Representatives Maricar Zamora-Apsay (Compostella Valley), Joy Bernos (Abra), Bem Noel (An Waray), Rodel Batocabe (Ako Bicol), Ben Evardone (Eastern Samar), Cesar Sarmiento (Catanduanes), Mel Sarmiento (Western Samar, 2nd district), Roger Espina (Biliran), Maximo Dalog (Mt. Province), Roy Loyola (Cavite), Carlo Lopez (Manila), Leo Ocampos (Misamis Occidental), Rene Relampagos (Bohol), Nancy Catamco (North Cotabato), he added.

Meanwhile, Central Negros Electric Cooperative, represented by its president Arnel Lapore and vice president Michael Maravilla, also brought food and water assistance to Guihulngan City recently.

Guihulngan City Mayor Ernesto Reyes received the goods in behalf of his constituents and thanked the CENECO directors for their help, a press release from Ceneco said.

Ceneco also gave technical and manpower assistance to its sister cooperative, Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative 1, in the rehabilitation and restoration of electricity service in the earthquake hit areas, Ceneco president Sulpicio Lagarde Jr. said in the press release.

Ceneco Line Construction Division Chief, Jose Taniongon, headed the delegation of two teams in restoring power distribution lines.

The first team headed by Joseph Amodia, was composed of Rodolfo Catuburan, Juland Norbe, Jose Noel Diaz, Arthur Diopenes, John Palma and Albert Soguillon. Reynaldo Monotilla headed the second d team withRomeo Amarante, Jose Juayong, Anthony Dela Vega, Noli Jimenea, Teddy Castillo, Joemarie Bieles, Joel Guion, and Roger Casaig, the Ceneco press release also said.

NORECO 1 General Manager Jose Juvelio Acabal thanked CENECO for the help.

Bobby Magalona of GK Negros said they will send a mission team to Guihulngan and La Libertad Saturday to bring P350,000 worth of food and water from various donors.*
