The Totus Tuus! Week celebrations in Bacolod City ended yesterday with Fr. Ronald Quijano of the National Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family reminding the faithful of blessed John Paul II’s pledge of belonging completely to God.
Highlighted by the national conference on the late Pope’s Nuptial Theology organized by the Institute, and the visit of Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto, apostolic nuncio to the Philippines, the weeklong event celebrated the 31st anniversary of the visit of Pope John Paull II in Bacolod City.
In his homily, Quijano stressed the importance of the family ministry in the Church’s apostolate, adding that it encompasses all the work of the different commissions established in the diocese.
He said the family molds the values and faith of the individual and the national conference was timely as the Church celebrate the Year of Faith from October this year to November 2013.
Also, as the Church celebrates the canonization into sainthood of blessed Pedro Calungsod as the second Filipino saint, Quijano reminded the faithful to remain committed in professing the faith.
As the Totus Tuus! Week ended, prayers are offered also for the sainthood of the late Pope John Paul II.
People in Bacolod City remember his visit 31 years ago, immortalizing the historic day by building a tower at the reclamation area near the site where the blessed pope stood and addressed the people of Negros.
The John Paul II tower now houses a memorabilia of the visit, including the pope’s “Message to Landowners and Workers”, the chair where he sat, and alb that was sent over by the archdioceses of Krakow, Poland.*NAB back
