DOLE vows implementation
of new job contracting rules

Labor Regional Director Ponciano Ligutom  has announced   that the Department of Labor and Employment is now implementing the new policies on job contracting despite opposition from some  job contractors  in Negros Occidental, a press release from thr DOLE said yesterday.

“We (the DOLE) are charged to implement the Order”, Ligutom said, when he spoke before participants at the ongoing seminar on Occupational Safety and Health for Construction Industry  at Planta Hotel in Bacolod City.

Department Order No. 18-A amends the existing regulations on job contracting and subcontracting arrangements under the old Department Order No. 18 issued in 2002.

Foundation proposing bill
for  social entrepreneurship

The Foundation for a Sustainable Society Inc. is proposing a bill on social entrepreneurship as a poverty reduction program of the country with the poor as the primary stakeholders, Heidi Charlize Fernandez, advocacy and communications specialist of FSSI, said Monday night.

Fernandez said they want President Benigno Aquino III to make this his program for poverty reduction and that they need to get the support of the legislators and policy makers to pass the bill.

“The conditional cash transfer of Aquino is not enough, we need something sustainable and we need to touch base on the enterprise level,” she said..

TESDA aids skilled workers

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority of Negros Occidental province in collaboration with Brgy. Villamonte in Bacolod City launched the Samahang Spesyalista for Beauty and Wellness Services composed of Massage Therapists, Hairdressers and Nail Art Technicians who are holders of TESDA National Competency II, recently, a press release from the agency said.

A launching ceremony and turnover of tools and materials to TESDA Spesyalista was attended by TESDA Staff, ABI-eTech school administrators, Victory Business College faculty and staff, which used to be the partner schools of TESDA, and barangay official and employees of Villamonte.

A Memorandum of Agreement was also signed between TESDA and Brgy. Villamonte, represented by Director Lorena Yunque of TESDA Neg. Occ. and Friday Solinap who was the program coordinator for TESDA Spesyalista Techonoprenuership Program in Brgy.Villamonte, the press release said.
