Visual artists set exhibition

The first grand art exhibition of visual artists called “Pinoy na Pinoy”, opened at ECCA Gallery in Valle Verde, Pasig City, Saturday, and will run until March 2 in celebration of the arts month, a press release from the group said yesterday.

It was participated in by 62 artists from as far as Japan and from Bacolod, Butuan, Laguna, Batangas, Zambales, Pampanga, La Union, Quezon, and Metro Manila.

Marlane Villa-Real, president of the Buy Pinoy Movement; Ophelia Huang, a businesswoman from Zambales; Rey Abella, former assistant secretary at the Department of Agriculture; and businessman Dante Silverio, cut the ribbon to open the exhibit, the press release added.*

Role of Vitamin
A emphasized

Silay City Health nutritionist and Garantisadong Pambata coordinator, Maria Tionko, reported the significance of Vitamin A in child’s wellness, a press release from Silay City said.

Tionko said Vitamin A helps form and maintain healthy skin, teeth, soft tissue and skin of the children which is essential for their development. A healthy and fit body enables the children to be happy and determined in going to their respective schools, she said.

Tionko was recognized, on February 6 for her exemplary performance in the delivery of vitamin A supplementation during the Garantisadong Pambata Campaign activity contributing to the improved health of the children for year 2011. The recognition was signed by the Provincial Health Officer Ernel Tumimbang, the press release said.

Tionko expressed appreciation for the effort of community health workers in Silay and Mayor Jose Montelibano in ensuring the wellness of the children in Silay City, the press release said.*

Music concert slated Feb. 28

The Society for Arts and Culture is holding a concert called “An Evening of Beautiful Music” at the Agape House, Carmelite Monastery, Bacolod City, 6:30 p.m. Friday, the group announced yesterday.

The concert aims to raise funds for the group’s projects to develop and awaken the interest of the youth in music, and to help gifted students who are not able to pursue their studies in conservatories, it added.

Negros has produced internationally-recognized music performers like Gil Lopez Kabayao, Leonor Kilayko, and Conchita Gaston. The group said there is need to produce more, who can put Bacolod and Negros in the limelight.

The concert will feature music instructors and pianists, who are members of the Society, and who will perform using varied instruments like piano, voice, violin, and any other musical instrument of interest in Bacolod, the group added.

These include Kilayko and Sylvia Javellana, pianists; Ruth Pedregosa, soprano; Cecilia Asico, marimbist; Lota Gabiosa and Mary Anne Infante, accompanists; and Luis Garrucho Jr., tenor.*

NONESCOST has most
nursing passers

The Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology – School of Nursing in Cadiz City topped nursing schools in Negros Occidental in the December 2011 Nursing Board Licensure Examination, a press release from the Capitol said.

There were 61 nursing graduates from the NONESCOST who passed the examination, with a passing percentage of 57.01, the press release said.
