A series of violent incidents in Negros Occidental recently claimed the lives of five persons, and caused injuries to five others, police records show.
Alejandro Calambro and his wife, Virginia, 33, were waylaid and shot by two unidentified suspects riding in tandem on a motorcycle Sunday, in Brgy. Bantayan, Kabankalan City.
Alejandro,35, who sustained to multiple gunshot wounds, was declared dead on arrival at the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City. His wife. who survived the attempt on her life, suffered injuries in the head and lower right arm, initial investigations by the Kabankalan police showed.
The couple was on their way home from Sitio Lower Baras to the Bantayan barangay proper, on board a motorcycle, when they were shot several times by two suspects, who were also riding a motorcycle.
On the same day, Lodena Buhol, 55, of Puerto Prinsesa City, Palawan, was declared dead on arrival at the Don Ignacio Lacson Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital , after she was stabbed allegedly by Manolito Briones, who was with laborers Johnny Briones and Jenifer Tajamon, in Brgy. Tinongan, Isabela, police said.
Senior Inspector Jason Manguilimutan, Isabela police chief, however, said they arrested Johnny Briones in a pursuit operation, but Tajamon is still at large.
A certain Joey Sernada,24, was also shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Brgy. Tuyom, Cauayan, on Feb. 19.
In his report to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, Chief Inspector Romeo Leyte, Cauayan police chief, said the unidentified suspect fled on board a motorcycle, after shooting Sernada.
Sernada was also declared dead on arrival at the Cauayan District Hospital.
Two other stabbing incidents in Murcia and Bago City on Feb. 19 claimed the life of Jesrel Pavillo, 26, and caused injury to Joto Matti,31, in crimes committed during a benefit dance.
Pavillo succumbed to multiple stab wounds, after he was stabbed by an unidentified suspect at a benefit dance hall in Brgy. Abuanan, Bago City.
Matti, meanwhile, was stabbed at a benefit dance hall in Sitio Wawa, Brgy. Pandanon Silos, Murcia, allegedly by Danny de la Cruz, who was later arrested by members of the barangay tanod, and endorsed to the Murcia Police Station.
Melvin Flores,23, also reported to the police that he was shot several times by an alleged caretaker of a gamefowl farm in Hacienda Santa Angela, Brgy. San Cruz, Murcia, also on Sunday.
Flores, who was hit in the right shoulder, is now being treated at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, while the gunman is still at-large.
The next day, farm laborer Roberto Tundag, a victim of stabbing, was found dead in a sugarcane plantation in Hacienda Elena, Brgy. Mabini, Cadiz City, police records also showed.
Tundag had a stab wounds in his back and left arm, that are believed to have caused his death.
Two brothers who are suspects in a hacking incident are now in jail, after they allegedly killed Vicente Cahayagan and inflicted injuries on his son, Joery,15, in Brgy. Talagacay, Hinobaan on Feb. 18.
The suspects, identified as Jupiter Quinanola, and his brother, Jonathan, allegedly hacked the two victims, and caused the death of Cahayagan, while the minor sustained a hack wound in the right forearm.
Investigations by the Hinobaan police showed that the victims had gave to the house of Quinanola to confront them, for hacking their dog.
Jupiter is the son-in-law of Cahayagan.* GPB back
